HHINT kickstarter
With the HHINT Kickstarter programme, international consortia consisting of at least one Dutch and one foreign partner, can apply for PPP Allowance to kick-start a long lasting foreign public-private partnership in R&D. Dutch SME’s can also apply for funding.
To stimulate international, public-private partnerships (PPP), and facilitate the first steps to R&D cooperation worldwide, the Top Sector LSH established the programme ‘Health~Holland International (HHINT) Kickstarter for PPPs’, as current financial instruments for early partnerships between the Netherlands and non-European countries are limited. Within the HHINT Kickstarter programme, for profit enterprises and recognised research organisations are invited to apply for financial support (PPP Allowance) to kick-start a long-lasting international public-private partnership in R&D. The PPP Allowance serves as a catalyst in international R&D cooperation between the parties.
The consortium must consist of at least one research organization, and one for-profit enterprise. One of the consortium partners must be foreign. Dutch SME’s can apply for funding within the HHINT program and can also be the main applicant. The project may have a maximum duration of 18 months.
'To safeguard a healthy longevity, mental health is a crucial element. So there is a need for simple objective tests to monitor somebodies' risk for declining mental health due to neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. While several measurements such as cognitive tests, mobility tests are available and necessary, we believe simple objective blood tests cannot only monitor mental health for prevention, but may also be useful in the search for new drugs. Progress in such an area requires a multi-disciplinatory approach not only from academic resources but also from business and public health engagement.'
PPPs
Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) are national, multi-annual, and thematic collaborations between organisations that contribute to at least one of the Ministry of Health-missions for the societal theme Health & Care.
Most of these strategic PPPs are supported by Health~Holland and one or more partners, firstly via focused information and sandpit sessions, secondly via matchmaking meetings to enable maximal knowledge exchange and collaboration between relevant public and private stakeholders and partners. Once the collaboration is set and the innovation-programme and instrumental technicalities are approved, Health~Holland, often in coalition with other financers, stimulates, facilitates and finances the PPP-programme. By means of PPP Allowance, Health~Holland provides financial support. PPP Allowance functions as a kick-start for innovative R&D projects, as it can cover up to 75% of all eligible project costs. Consortia who can apply contain at least one research organisation (e.g. Leiden University) and one enterprise.
Most of the PPPs cover a specific area of a disease, such as cardiovascular diseases (DCVA) and Cancer (Oncode) or a more generic and overarching theme like regenerative medicine (RegMed XB) or the national infrastructures for health data (Health-RI).
'As a medical device startup company, participating in a public private partnership, gives us the opportunity to collaborate with top researchers in our field. The ideas, network and expected results will help us to grow and explore the full capabilities of our technology. The support of Health~Holland for our consortium is of great value because of the push towards collaboration and results.'
