Knowledge and Innovation Covenant 2024-2027

With this renewed Knowledge and Innovation Covenant 2024-2027, companies, knowledge institutions, governments and other organizations reaffirm their joint commitment to Mission-Driven Innovation Policy for the coming years in the Netherlands. There is €5.7 billion for stimulating innovation within the missions and key technologies. Of that amount, €1.4 billion comes from companies and €4.3 billion from public funds.

Minister Micky Adriaansens (EZK): "We want the Netherlands to remain at the top in terms of innovation. Only then can we meet major challenges in the areas of technology, climate, digitalization and security. By turning knowledge into innovation here, we can solve societal challenges, reduce our dependence on non-EU countries and ensure jobs and income for future generations. The signing of the KIC is not a formality. For me it shows what the strength of the Netherlands is: public and private parties who are motivated to work together to create a strong and innovative Netherlands."

The Mission-Driven Innovation Policy focuses on five central missions (goals) in the areas of energy transition, circular economy, health & care, agriculture/water & food and security. For both societal impact and economic growth, key technologies, digitization and scale-up are crucial. Therefore, to properly align activities, KIC partners are working together through eight Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs). These are:
