An HIV-free world: a dream or near future?
Worldwide there are 37 million people living with HIV. Although we believe that finding a cure is possible in the near future, we cannot do this alone. Therefore, Aidsfonds and Top Sector Life Sciences & Health (Health~Holland) have decided to partner up and call on you to help us find the cure. We believe that together we can reach an HIV cure!
The Netherlands delivers new EMA head office
On 15 November the Netherlands officially delivered the new headquarters for the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Minister Bruno Bruins (Medical Care and Sport) complimented everyone involved with this special achievement. The building is situated in the Amsterdam Zuidas.
Cancer research boosted by collaboration between science and industry
Researchers at Dutch universities can spend the coming years working with industry to realise new steps in the fight against cancer. Eight research groups have received funding so that scientists and companies can work together on technical innovations for the prevention, diagnosis and better treatment of cancer. Top Sector Life Sciences & Health, NWO and the Dutch Cancer Society have invested 5.4 million euros in the projects; the companies and organisations involved are contributing more than 1.5 million euros.

Bedrijven, kennisinstellingen en overheid investeren samen 4,9 miljard in het missie-gedreven topsectoren en innovatiebeleid
Het poldermodel in topvorm. In de fabriekshal van het bedrijf Airborne plaatste staatssecretaris Mona Keijzer op 11 november 2019 de laatste handtekening onder het Kennis- en Innovatie Convenant. Bedrijven, kennisinstellingen zoals universiteiten, hogescholen en NWO, regio’s door heel Nederland en acht ministeries investeren gezamenlijk in 2020 4,9 miljard euro in kennis en innovatie. Daarvan komt 2,05 miljard van bedrijven en 2,85 miljard uit publieke middelen. Dit is een verdubbeling ten opzichte van dit jaar.

Festive launch for mission-driven top sector and innovation policy Health & Care
With the mission-driven top sector and innovation policy, the government has an explicit role in innovation and public-private partnerships. This also applies to the five missions that belong to the societal theme of Health & Care. To reinforce these missions, Top Sector Life Sciences & Health (Health ~ Holland) organised a festive launch of the collaboration between public and private organisations in health and care on 31 October.
Trial population screening for chronic kidney damage
In november start in de regio Breda voor het eerst in de wereld een regionaal bevolkingsonderzoek naar nierschade. Het onderzoek moet aantonen of deze screening gezondheidsvoordeel voor de bevolking oplevert. 1,7 miljoen Nederlanders hebben chronische nierschade, maar de helft hiervan weet dit niet. Door nierschade vroegtijdig op te sporen kan sneller behandeld worden, en kan nierfalen mogelijk worden voorkomen.
Cato Research announces merger with SMS-oncology
Cato Research, LLC (CATO) announced that it has merged with Specialized Medical Services-oncology BV (SMS-oncology) to bolster its portfolio of global solutions dedicated to supporting life science organizations with advancing drug development. The combined company will transition to the new name, CATO SMS, in the coming year.
