Netherlands among top of the world's most competitive countries according to World Economic Forum

- Nederland verstevigt dit jaar haar vierde plaats op de ranglijst van meest concurrerende economieën ter wereld. Met een betere score dan in 2016 behoudt Nederland de positie van meest concurrerende economie in de Europese Unie. Wereldwijd lopen alleen Zwitserland, Singapore en de VS nog voor op Nederland. Dit blijkt uit de jaarlijkse, toonaangevende ranglijst van het Global Competitiveness Report die is opgesteld door het World Economic Forum.

Minister opens innovative new hospital in Maaseik

- Na jaren van intensieve gesprekken met gebruikers, gedetailleerde uitwerking van de plannen, afstemming met de toetsende instanties en de realisatie is het zover; Het nieuwe ziekenhuis Maas en Kempen is gereed. Donderdag 14 september heeft Vlaams minister Jo Vandeurzen, het nieuwe ziekenhuis in Maaseik naar ontwerp van de Jong Gortemaker Algra architecten en ingenieurs officieel geopend.

Anton Pijpers appointed new president of Utrecht University

- With effect from 1 October, Professor Anton Pijpers (1958) will be the new president of the Executive Board of Utrecht University. He has already been vice-president since 2014. Pijpers will succeed Marjan Oudeman, who left the position of president in June.

Mimetas Develops High-Throughput Gut-on-a-chip Technology in Collaboration with Roche

- Mimetas, in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Roche, has developed a novel organ-on-a-chip system that supports evaluation of intestinal permeability in perfused 3D gut tubules in high throughput under exposure to pharmacological compounds. The results of this research were published in the scientific journal Nature Communications.
