2023 in a nutshell - Crossing Borders

What did 2023 look like for the International department of Health~Holland? In this article we give you an overview of some of the highlights.

Missions

This year we were not only pleased to welcome delegations in the Netherlands, but we were also thrilled to be part of outgoing missions. These missions create the opportunity to explore the life sciences ecosystems outside our borders.

Let’s look back at two outgoing missions: the economic mission to Boston in June and the mission Elderly Care and Dementia Care to China. The mission to Boston was led by by Micky Adriaansens, Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and Ernst Kuipers, Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport. A Dutch delegation with over 50 companies joined the mission, as it is a way of showcasing the strength of Dutch companies and organizations in the Life Sciences & Health sector. Furthermore, the challenges we face in long-term care are also seen in other countries. Think of the increasing number of elderly people, more and more people with dementia. China is one of the strongest aging countries in the world and thus a valuable knowledge partner for the Netherlands. The mission to China created space to see how further cooperation on this matter would be possible.

New Bidbook

This year was also the year that together with the Netherlands Foreign Investment AgencyVereniging Innovatieve Geneesmiddelen and Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) we published our bidbookThis book showcases the opportunities for international collaboration in health & care in the Netherlands. Entitled ‘Welcome to the Netherlands: Europe’s Connected Life Sciences & Health Metropolis’. Read all about joining our vibrant Life Sciences & Health ecosystem in this special bidbook. It demonstrates why the Netherlands is an attractive place for innovative business and an accessible and interconnected metropolis for sharing knowledge and innovations.

As always, Health~Holland was present at the BIO's

As every year, we were present at the BIO's. In March, our colleagues were ready to welcome you at the BIO-Europe Spring in Basel, in June at the International BIO in Boston and in October at the BIO in Munich. The Dutch Pavilion is the perfect place to inform everyone at the BIO about the strengths of the Dutch life sciences ecosystem.

And more events....

This year, the Task Force Health Care organized the Health~Holland Pavilion at the MEDICA in Düsseldorf for the 12th time. The Health~Holland Pavilion is always organized in cooperation with Health~Holland and at the request of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). Besides the MEDICA, we work closely with the Task Force Health Care to set up events. Another annual event is the World of Health Care, a key event to connect with key players from the Dutch Life Sciences & Health sector and high-level decision-makers in international healthcare.

Health~Holland Update

The next highlight definitely worth mentioning is the publication of the Health~Holland Update: Crossing Borders – the vital importance of international collaboration. This is the first time that a Health~Holland Update completely focussed on internationalization. You read more about the LSH developments in an international context. This magazine covers topics including: building the international ecosystem, stimulating internationalization and examples of international cooperation. It includes interviews with amongst others Cinzia Silvestri from Bi/ond, she is Transatlantic Connections Award honoree 2023 and Arthur Mirzoian, policy advisor Life Sciences and Health (LSH) at the National Growth Fund (NGF). He tells us more about the impetus NGF provides to the Dutch economy in the long run, and especially the focus on the investment that allows projects to be drawn internationally.

The new Global Health Hub

We signed the new Global Health Hub together with the Ministry of Health, Welfare & Sport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 26 partners in health. The Dutch Global Health Hub's purpose is to foster collaboration among key stakeholders: knowledge institutions, academia, NGOs, top sectors, youth, and think tanks in the realm of global health. Together, we're turning ideas into action, pooling our strengths, and collaboratively bringing our strategy to life. Our goal: to achieve health and well-being for all through innovative, holistic, demand-driven, and forward-thinking solutions.
