The Winner of the Venture Challenge Fall 2020 is SLAM Orthopedic!

This year’s winners of the Venture Challenge were uniquely announced in front of an online audience at the Dutch Life Sciences Conference. The proud winner of the fall edition is Slam Orthopedic. The innovative startup SLAM Orthopedic has developed an automated, accurate and fast bore depth measurement system for bone fractures.

According to the jury, comprised of Carine van den Brink, Stefan Braam, Kim Lucassen, Olga Liska and Geert-Jan Mulder, SLAM Ortho is addressing a real need as experienced by orthopaedic surgeons on a daily basis. They have a clear value proposition on which they can expand in the future.

SLAM Ortho has developed an automated, accurate and fast bore depth measurement system for bone fractures. This has multiple advantages such as: no time lost in (repeated) measurements, no extra x-rays needed, no wasted implants, no extra actions needed and a decreased risk of re-surgery for the patient. The patented technology has been tested on human bones in cadaveric specimens in which it outperformed the manual gauge.

Bart Kölling of SLAM Orthopedic: 'The Venture Challenge lived up to its name, as the programme challenged us to analyse all aspects of our venture and helped us focus on improving our strategy and our message. We would like to thank the organisers and the other teams for the great online and offline sessions, and we are of course extremely happy to have been chosen as the winner!'

The Venture Challenge Fall 2020 started in September this year and ended today at the Dutch Life Sciences Conference where SLAM Ortho takes home the €25.000 prize money to invest in their growth. The other highly-motivated participating teams were: 2ndB, Myonovum, NanoYounique and Panorama Laboratories.
