Presenting the Netherlands as the perfect location for biopharmaceutical innovation during the BIO International Convention

At the start of June, 17,300 delegates attended the BIO International Convention in Philadelphia. Branded with the theme “It starts with one”, BIO highlighted the game-changing impact of the small, daily efforts of biotech entrepreneurs. One of the exhibition floor highlights was the Health~Holland Pavilion, a not-to-miss orange landmark in a sea of country pavilions. Together with a delegation of 120 Dutch biotech entrepreneurs, we look back on a successful edition where we spread the word on the Dutch Life Sciences industry.

Annemiek Verkamman, Managing Director HollandBIO: ‘With top-notch scientists, outstanding research and education and great entrepreneurial spirit, we established our leading position in Europe. Add to that the recent relocation of the EMA, and it becomes clear that the Netherlands is the place to be for life sciences companies.’

The orange Health~Holland Pavilion was once again the eye-catcher of the exhibition floor. Dressed up with tulips, stroopwafels (syrup waffles) and a Dutch Loyens & Loeff bike, the pavilion was an orange living room. But most importantly, it was the central information point for international visitors with questions regarding the Dutch business and innovation climate and the Dutch life sciences & health sector. To endorse this, Invest in Holland, PharmInvestHolland and Health~Holland presented the Netherlands as the perfect location to build your biopharmaceutical company with a new video.

In this video, well-known faces from the biopharmaceutical sector talk about the unique combination of Dutch strengths and the opportunities our country has to offer, such as the unrivalled concentration of biopharmaceutical ecosystems, our long history of public-private partnerships and our world-class infrastructure for drug research. All with one goal: improving patients’ lives.

Onno van der Stolpe, CEO Galapagos: ‘For us the access to the academic infrastructure, the international workforce, the European Medicines Agency that relocated to Amsterdam and, of course, Schiphol are crucial for our success. The Netherlands is an excellent place to build your biotech company.’

We invite you to connect with our innovative Life Sciences and Health Community. We are ready to welcome you and open doors for you…
