Economic mission | China

-

The mission is led by prime minister Rutte, minister Kaag (Foreign Trade & Development), minister Schouten (Agriculture), minister Bruins (Medical Care & Sport) and vice-minister Van Veldhoven (infrastructure). Director General of Curative Care Van Den Dungen will also join the LSH delegation.

Background
With large-scale changes in infrastructure, technological progress and the world’s second largest healthcare market, China is a rising superpower, a country with opportunities to contribute to further development. A huge growth in personal prosperity, improved coverage of health insurance (~ 95% or the population is now covered), and an ever-growing healthcare expenditure make the country even more interesting than just a few years ago. The Chinese government’s policy is aimed at further improving the quality of health care, with the creation of private facilities for the emerging middle class.

The major reforms in the Life Sciences & Health Sector make China a very interesting market to realize your international ambitions. A significant campaign from the Chinese government has been set up to achieve a truly “healthy China” in the coming years, with new regulations offering opportunities to foreign innovative parties to enter the Chinese healthcare sector. The Chinese government and the private sector are investing more than ever in the development of a sustainable healthcare sector where Dutch LSH companies and knowledge institutes can act as partners of the Chinese.

The Mission
The Life Sciences & Health participants of the mission to China will visit the cities of Beijing, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Beijing, as the centre of the central government, remains an important place for the Netherlands to talk about policy issues. It is also the location for Dutch companies and organizations to show their innovative and sustainable solutions to government officials looking from all over China to Beijing. Guangzhou, the southern Chinese port city with more than 13.5 million inhabitants has developed into a hub for healthcare innovations and is a pilot region where the Netherlands is regularly invited to cooperate and to put to use its innovative solutions. Chengdu, known for its pandas and good food, is West China’s rapidly growing economic hub and has been maintaining warm ties to the Netherlands since 2013.
