Job engine innovative Top Sectors requires learning communities
Technological progress and disruption radically change the labour market. People – who cannot quickly adapt to the speed and possess the necessary skills- are at risk of dropping out, which will have a negative impact on our knowledge economy. Learning communities could turn the tide, state the Top Sectors in the investment agenda ‘Learning Communities 2018 - 2021’ that Anka Mulder, Boardmember TU Delft, presented June 26 on behalf of all Top Sectors to Maarten Camps, Secretary General of the department of Economic Affairs.

• Attracted by the strong performance of BioGeneration Ventures (BGV), new investors joined BGV III including the European Investment Fund, whose contribution comes from InnovFin Equity Facility and the Dutch Venture Initiative II • BioGeneration Ventures focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation in therapeutics, medical devices and diagnostics in Europe • BGV III already made 4 investments and expects to make 15 investments in total
New step in international collaboration on pharmaceuticals
België, Nederland, Luxemburg en Oostenrijk starten een gezamenlijk project rond horizon scanning in de geneesmiddelensector. Daarbij worden potentieel belangrijke farmaceutische innovaties in kaart gebracht nog vóór ze op de markt komen. Het structureel verzamelen en analyseren van informatie uit bijvoorbeeld onderzoek en literatuur geeft beter zicht op verwachte kosten, patiëntenaantallen en indicatie uitbreidingen. Zo wordt het mogelijk om vooraf al beleidsbeslissingen te nemen, of (gezamenlijke) prijsonderhandelingen voor te bereiden.
LSH sector cooperates with the Creative Industry on Health and Wellbeing
Op 30 mei en 12 juni kwamen in de Jaarbeurs in Utrecht vertegenwoordigers uit de creatieve industrie en gezondheidszorg en welzijn bij elkaar om invulling te geven aan de Roadmap Co-Creating Health. De roadmap, een initiatief van de topsectoren Creatieve Industrie en Life Sciences & Health in samenwerking met U CREATE Centre of Expertise Future Health Design, brengt de behoefte aan kennisontwikkeling en innovaties op het grensgebied tussen de twee sectoren in kaart.
Dutch haematologist wins European Inventor Award
De Nederlandse hematoloog en uitvinder Jan van den Boogaart heeft de European Inventor Award gewonnen. Hij ontving de toonaangevende Europese wetenschapsprijs vandaag voor een test die sneller en goedkoper malaria opspoort.
The Netherlands strengthens its position as European innovation leader
Nederland heeft zijn positie als innovatief koploper verder versterkt. Uit het vandaag gepubliceerde gezaghebbende European Innovation Scoreboard van de Europese Commissie blijkt dat Nederland ten opzichte van vorig jaar een hogere score noteert op de 27 indicatoren voor innovatiekracht. Ook is Nederland van de vijfde plek, gestegen naar de vierde plek op de lijst en heeft het daarmee Duitsland gepasseerd. Naast Nederland en Duitsland zijn ook Zweden, Denemarken, Finland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk in 2017 als innovatieleider aangeduid. In 2016 behaalde Nederland deze aanduiding voor het eerst.
Innovation Industries: a new investment fund of €75 million for Dutch hightech-, medtech- and agritech companies
Innovation Industries is een nieuw technologiefonds dat de komende tien jaar gaat investeren in circa 20 veelbelovende hightech-bedrijven in Nederland. Het doel van het fonds is om hoogwaardige kennis aanwezig op de technische universiteiten, TNO en ECN versneld om te zetten in succesvolle (internationale) bedrijven en om reeds bestaande hightech-bedrijven (zogenaamde scale-ups) te ondersteunen bij hun groei.
NWO Spinoza Prizes awarded to Eveline Crone, Albert Heck, Michel Orrit and Alexander van Oudenaarden
Today NWO President Stan Gielen announced that developmental psychologist Eveline Crone, analytical chemist Albert Heck, physical chemist Michel Orrit and biologist and biophysicist Alexander van Oudenaarden have each been awarded an NWO Spinoza Prize. These researchers have been given this prize for their exceptional, pioneering and inspiring work. The NWO Spinoza Prize is the highest scientific distinction in the Netherlands. The laureates will each receive 2.5 million euros which they can spend on scientific research.
Lygature on the impact of multi-stakeholder Public-Private Partnerships
In recent years Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) have evolved into broader coalitions. Health foundations, patient organizations and even regulatory agencies have taken an active role in PPPs. Indicators that measure the impact of such precompetitive research collaborations in the biomedical field have been developed.
