TMCx Accelerator to Open Applications for Healthcare Startups
TMC Innovation will soon open applications for the TMCx programme. Through TMCx, the Texas Medical Center continues their commitment to develop relationships with health systems, corporate partners, and startup companies who impact healthcare access, outcomes, and costs.
Who should apply?
Healthcare startups ready to engage with health systems should apply to TMCx. The TMC Innovation team supports medical device and digital health companies positioned to work with health systems through engagements including piloting new technologies, conducting clinical studies, and joint development opportunities. For the next application cycle, especially encourage are applicants in the following spaces: Women/Children’s Health, Primary Care, Heart/Vascular Health, Oncology, and Behavioural Health.
Why apply to TMCx?
Located within the world’s largest medical centre, TMC Innovation is the gateway for startup companies to gain access to the country’s top healthcare institutions. The focus is on supporting a company’s progress toward clinical milestones that align with strategic business development. TMCx programme participants will meet with clinical stakeholders, strategic mentors, and other partners who can help to support progress to a clinical relationship.
What does TMCx participation entail?
The TMCx programme requires a leadership team member (founder and/or C-suite) to commit to periodic virtual meetings in order to build and sustain new partnerships. A subset of applicants will be invited to Bootcamp, where meetings with clinical and strategic advisors will inform the final selection of the TMCx cohort. TMCx cohort participants will continue with periodic meetings for the next 6 months. The programme does not include much educational programming; the focus is centred on partnership development and strategic mentor access.
Key dates:
April 2: Application deadline
May 1: Companies notified of selection into next phase of diligence
May - July: TMCx Bootcamp. This diligence period is for the TMCx team and partners to evaluate companies fit for the programme and for companies to evaluate opportunities with TMC Innovation
July 14: Companies notified of selection into TMCx
August 14 - December 17: TMCx program hosted virtually until travel to Houston becomes available
What is the TMC innovation team looking for in the application?
The team is evaluating each company’s clinical value proposition and readiness to work with a large health system. Descriptions of ongoing pilot, pre-clinical, or clinical milestones achieved as well as a well-articulated plan for new clinical partnerships are important to discuss in the application. Companies should also illustrate how users will adopt your technology and future growth/commercialisation strategies.
