Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven visited InSciTe to learn about the unique matrix concept to accelerate the road from patent to patient

On monday 16 April, Minister of Education, Culture and Science Ingrid van Engelshoven visited the biomedical facility of the Institute for Science and Technology (InSciTe) in Geleen as part of a work visit to the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. Daniëlle Curfs, biomedical programme director of InSciTe welcomed her and introduced her to the biomedical accelerator matrix concept developed within the InSciTe biomedical facilities.

The matrix concept was explained in an interactive way via a ‘walk the talk’ in the facility. Several representatives of the startup companies and projects working within InSciTe discussed with the Minister the advantages of the acceleration ecosystem within InSciTe and the Brightlands Chemelot Campus. They explained their innovations towards stem cell technology for treatment of spinal cord injury and ALS, but also innovations in treatment for cartilage defects and vascular access for dialysis patients. 

The matrix concept of InSciTe  
The matrix concept is a full service, self-learning pick and choose menu, with several elements needed for a (bio)medical startup company to produce a product ready for the market. Clients of the matrix have the availability to state-of-the-art infrastructure, equipment, cleanrooms, flexible workspaces and technical & quality professionals. All, under guidance of an overarching ISO certified quality system with matching trainings.

With this concept, companies and projects are able to create their own work-learn environment to accelerate and enhance their chance of success towards patient and market. InSciTe introduced this concept end of last year and six public-private development projects and four start-up companies are already successfully working via this concept.
