Innovative Medical Devices Initiative (IMDI)
Technology for a manageably staffed and affordable healthcare system that remains accessible to everyone.
Better health and a cost-effective healthcare system are important national challenges. Technological innovation is vital in this regard, as it allows for more personalised care, aimed at the wishes and possibilities of the individual. At the same time, technology plays a crucial role in keeping care manageably staffed and affordable – also for the long term – by reducing the demand for care and at least partially substituting the deployment of care personnel. The demand for care can be reduced by developing technology that prevents existing conditions from worsening or becoming chronic, or technology that contributes to more effective diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Using medical technology to support patient self-care or informal care and to simplify professionals’ care procedures results in a lower deployment of care personnel.
