Colombia | Life Sciences & Health Mission

-

Interested in taking your business to the next level in the Colombian healthcare market? Join the Life Sciences & Health Mission to Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia. This mission, which will take place from 26-30 June 2023, offers the perfect opportunity to (re-)connect with important stakeholders and key decision-makers.

This mission is part of a multi-annual public-private programme on co-creating integrated care between Colombia and the Netherlands. This has been made possible by Holland House Colombia and the “Partners for International Business (PIB), named WeCareColombia. The LSH PIB WeCareColombia is a three-year cooperation between the Dutch government and a cluster of Dutch companies and knowledge institutes.

Latest trends and developments

Since June 19, 2022 Colombia has elected a new president, Gustavo Petro, which is the first left president of the country. Accordingly, the first draft of the National Development Plan 2023-2026 has been published, which foresees an investment of 242.7 billion USD, distributed by transformations.

As part of the new presidency, a healthcare reform was announced, where the main focus will be on primary care, prevention, cost containment, equality and technology integration/interoperability. To do so, comprehensive and integrated networks are now being created to provide opportunities to develop initiatives that could contribute to improving healthcare provision, such as the implementation of the Digital Health Roadmap for the coming 10 years.

The launch of the National Preventive Health Initiative by the Ministry of Health represents a change in health practice, which translates into increasing healthcare accessibility, especially in the remote areas. These developments of Colombia’s healthcare system provide new opportunities for highly innovative healthcare solutions, stimulating the collaboration between Colombia and the Netherlands.

What to expect?

This mission will provide excellent opportunities to (re-)connect with relevant business contacts and to learn more about the latest trends and developments of the Colombian Life Sciences & Health sector. The programme is still under development but will include the following elements:

  • Collective visits to relevant LSH stakeholders in Bogotá and Medellín, e.g. to public- and private hospitals, health units, universities, insurers/EPS etc.
  • Seminars/roundtables focusing on specific topics matching the Dutch and local interest.
  • Networking events where you can meet (new) local business contacts
  • Knowledge sharing and possible cooperation with participants within the Dutch LSH delegation.
  • Presence and support from the Task Force Health Care and Holland House Colombia.

To enhance the quality and success of the mission, there will be a joint programme as well as two programmes running in parallel with regard to the site visits. This is done to accommodate both exploratory stakeholders and stakeholders who want to use this mission to deepen existing relationships.
