Johnson & Johnson Announces Acceleration of its COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate
Johnson & Johnson announced that through its Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies (Janssen) it has accelerated the initiation of the Phase 1/2a first-in-human clinical trial of its investigational SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, Ad26.COV2-S, recombinant. Initially scheduled to begin in September, the trial is now expected to commence in the second half of July.

Kite Receives European Medicines Agency Approval for CAR T Cell Therapy Manufacturing Facility in Europe
Kite, a Gilead Company (Nasdaq: GILD), announced it has received approval to implement a variation to the Yescarta® (axicabtagene ciloleucel) Marketing Authorization from the European Medicine Agency (EMA) for end-to-end manufacturing. With this approval, Kite’s European manufacturing facility, designed and dedicated to the manufacture of individualised cell therapies, is now fully operational.
Six More Projects Awarded in COVID-19 Call
Since the foundation of Top Sector LSH, it has supported numerous projects with research into coronaviruses. At the end of March, Health~Holland set up a call for COVID-19 related research proposals. In May we announced that in only one month four projects were awarded by the Health~Holland board. This week we announce the good news that six more projects have been granted PPP Allowance to start their research.
National Healthcare Innovation Award Winners Are TrueSim and Wolkheupairbag
Op het LSH010 ontbijt zijn de winnaars van de Nationale Zorginnovatieprijs 2020 bekend gemaakt. TrueSim en Wolk Heupairbag zijn uitgeroepen tot winnaars. TrueSim ontving de vakjury prijs van €10.000,- en het publiek koos voor Wolk Heupairbag als winnaar van de €5.000,- publieksprijs.
LUMC Involved in the Development of New Drugs Against SARS-CoV-2 and Other Coronaviruses
De afdeling Medische Microbiologie van het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC) doet binnen diverse projecten onderzoek naar antivirale middelen tegen SARS-CoV-2. Als onderdeel van het PanCoroNed project wordt onder leiding van dr. Martijn van Hemert in het laboratorium de antivirale werking getest van moleculen die in Nijmegen ontwikkeld worden.

Het aantal nieuwe innovatieve geneesmiddelen die de komende tijd beschikbaar komen, is weer toegenomen. Ook het vinden van een middel tegen COVID-19 heeft de hoogste prioriteit. Dat blijkt uit de Horizonscan van Zorginstituut Nederland.

Fall Edition Venture Challenge Now Open
Vanaf deze week kunnen ondernemende onderzoekers hun kandidatuur kenbaar maken voor de najaarsronde van de Venture Challenge, die NWO organiseert in opdracht van het ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat (EZK). De deadline voor aanvragen is 14 juli 2020.
