An impression of the succesful mission to China with Minister Hugo de Jonge

From 6 – 10 May 2019 the Embassy of the Netherlands in Beijing, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, and Task Force Health Care (TFHC) organised an ageing and elderly care mission to China, led by Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport, Hugo de Jonge.

Elderly care is a priority for the Chinese government, which has installed a National Elderly Care Committee. This Committee has developed a vision for long-term care, placing homecare at its base, community-based care at the second level and institutional care for ultimate support. In order to further improve Chinese elderly care, the Chinese government encourages international parties to engage in collaborations with Chinese parties.

Cooperation with China has been greatly enhanced through this mission. It goes without saying that lots of information has been exchanged on elderly care, and the Chinese were full of admiration for our Dutch approach with the elderly. This resulted in the signing of a cooperation contract on elderly care by Minister De Jonge.
