The LION project, in collaboration with local projects and residents lifestyle community and lifestyle ‘hub’ for independently living older adults in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. Together with the LION network we aim to address poor nutrition, insufficient physical activity, and limited health literacy among older people in the neighborhood.

A healthy lifestyle is crucial for healthy aging, contributing not only to an increased life expectancy but also to more qualitative life years. Currently, nearly 75% of the older adults are overweight, leasing to a highly increased risk for adverse health outcomes. Additionally, loss of muscle mass and muscle function further increases health risks. Poor health literacy often exacerbates these issues, leading to higher rates of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease among disadvantaged groups. Effective interventions are necessary to improve the health outcomes of specifically these disadvantages groups.

With LION we focuses on creating a neighborhood-based lifestyle community or lifestyle hub supported by an online tool to better match lifestyle activities with individual needs. The hub and the tool will be designed and tested in collaboration with local partners, including community organizations, healthcare providers, and residents. By including local existing projects and by working in co-creation with the residents we aim to reach and support the individuals that can benefit most from lifestyle interventions.

At the end of the project we aim to deliver a functional lifestyle hub and the online match tool. The hub and tool need to be adapted by the community. The LION project aims to foster collaboration, enhance health literacy, and ultimately contribute to healthier, more independent aging in the community.
