HOME-VISION: HOme-based Monitoring and Evaluation of VISual function In Older adults with Neurocognitive impairment (Project acronym: HOME-VISION).

In this project, Reyedar BV, Hogeschool Utrecht (HU), and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), supported by Vilans, collaborate in a public-private partnership. The goal is to co-design and validate a portable, dementia-friendly version of the SONDA eye-tracking system for functional vision measurements at home. 

Globally, over 55 million people live with dementia, often suffering from undiagnosed visual impairments. This increases fall risks and the burden on informal caregivers. Existing vision tests are often too complex or inaccessible for this group, making innovation in home diagnostics essential for maintaining independence. 

Through industrial research and experimental development, the team adapts hardware and software for home use. Co-design sessions are organized with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. Subsequently, a real-world pilot evaluates the usability, acceptance, and technical robustness of the system in the actual living environments of people with dementia. 

Key results include a functional portable prototype, a regulatory technical dossier, implementation guidelines for primary care, and a roadmap for market introduction. This ensures the sustainable integration of the technology into the Dutch healthcare system. Read more here.
