ADVanced Image Supported lEft ventricular lead placement in Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy: ADVISE-CRT III
A randomized controlled multicenter study investigating the effect of image guided implantation of CRT pacemakers
The CARTBox platform is a technique that helps cardiologists place the pacemaker wire of the cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacemaker at the optimal location in the heart to improve the outcomes of therapy. The CARTBox platform consists of a cloud based component for MRI image postprocessing, and a image guidance tool in the cardiac catheterization room which helps cardiologists to place the pacemaker wire of the cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacemaker at the optimal location in the heart to improve the outcomes of therapy. We worked with cardiologists and patients to further develop and test the CARTBox platform. Ultimately, 7 hospitals participated in this randomized controlled multicenter study using this technique. All these hospitals were trained in the use of the CARTBox platform. Due to some delays in patient inclusion, the duration of the study had to be extended to include a total of 130 patients. All data is now available for analysis and the results can be shared at conferences. In addition, we also looked at the broader impact of the CARTBox platform on healthcare costs. Based on a predictive model, the use of the CARTBox platform for implants would lead to better CRT outcomes and lower healthcare costs. This will be verified with the data from the current study. Finally, plans are already being made for additional research to make the CARTBox platform more widely applicable.
