I-JGZ: Healthy youth through integrated and personalized digital innovations in preventive child health care (JGZ)

Youth healthcare services (JGZ) are undergoing a transformation to maintain the quality, accessibility, and affordability of care, particularly in a time of increasing demand, labour shortages, and shrinking budgets. The focus is on strengthening families, specifically through parent empowerment, by introducing more flexibility and personalization within JGZ. The introduction of integrated and personalized digital innovations (I-JGZ) is seen as a way to support this transition.
At present, digital innovations within JGZ are fragmented, and data exchange is limited. There are various standalone apps, portals, and digital records in use. Integrating these existing digital innovations into JGZ is essential to enhance parent empowerment by enabling more flexible and personalized care delivery.
To achieve this, the consortium partners of the Health Deal I-JGZ have established a public-private partnership to develop an I-JGZ platform. This platform, designed for both professionals and parents, provides an infrastructure that allows for the modular integration of digital innovations within JGZ. The following innovations are made accessible through this platform:
- Decision support for professionals,
- Tools for parents to track their children's growth and development, and
- Tailored advice regarding their children’s growth.
These innovations aim to improve the quality and efficiency of care, as well as empower parents, contributing to the healthy development of their children. Several issues have been explored to realize the national rollout of I-JGZ, focusing on user-friendliness, contribution to care, empowerment, and implementation factors.
The consortium has delivered an I-JGZ infrastructure with an API Gateway ("data socket"). This enables various data-driven digital innovations, such as self-monitoring tools, tailored advice, and decision support, to be made available to parents and professionals via their own eHealth service, such as parent apps and digital records.
During this project, the I-JGZ platform was integrated into the operational processes of the involved parties. Through the connection with the platform, the GroeiGids app provides tailored advice and Van Wiechen videos to more than 28,000 parents. Digital record providers Topicus, Gino, and Allegro Sultum offer decision support to a total of 15 JGZ organizations.
