Alzheimer Digital is a new public-private partnership uniting leading academic and industry partners to transform the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in the Netherlands. The project aims to develop, validate, and implement innovative digital cognitive and functional assessment tools, powered by artificial intelligence, to support earlier and more accurate diagnosis. By combining expertise from Amsterdam UMC, MoCa BV, ki:elements, Evidencio, and Progress Clinical Research, the partnership will accelerate the adoption of digital solutions in dementia care.

Alzheimer’s disease is a major and growing societal challenge, affecting over 300,000 people in the Netherlands:a number expected to double in the next 20 years. Late diagnosis often results in care that does not meet the needs of patients and caregivers, leading to higher healthcare costs and reduced quality of life. Early and accurate detection is crucial, especially as new treatments become available. Digital innovations are essential to make diagnostics more scalable, accessible, and person-centred, helping to address the increasing burden on healthcare systems.

The project will create Dutch-language versions of three promising digital tools: an AI-based avatar for cognitive screening (MoCA Solo), a remote speech-based cognitive assessment (SB-C), and a digital caregiver-based tool for daily functioning (A-IADL-Q). These tools will be validated in real-world clinical settings and refined in close collaboration with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The approach ensures that the solutions are practical, inclusive, and ready for integration into the Dutch healthcare system, supporting earlier interventions and personalised care.

The main deliverables of Alzheimer Digital include validated digital cognitive and functional assessment tools, technical documentation required for CE certification, and a comprehensive roadmap for implementation in clinical practice. These outcomes will lay the foundation for a future in which digital diagnostics enable timely, efficient, and patient-friendly Alzheimer’s care for all.
