As we face the added pressures of ageing populations, rising healthcare costs, and staff shortages, Japan and the Netherlands are building a relationship, united by the belief that a healthier, more sustainable future is only possible through partnership.

Strengthening the Netherlands–Japan Life Sciences & Health Partnership
The Netherlands–Japan relationship in Life Sciences & Health gained renewed momentum in 2022, with the launch of a Government-to-Government dialogue on healthcare. This marked an important first step towards exploring how both countries could learn from each other, share expertise and strengthen collaboration in healthcare and innovation.
Building on this foundation, cooperation expanded through a series of joint activities and missions. In 2023, the partnership focused on regenerative medicine, with webinars in April and May, followed by a Dutch Regenerative Medicine mission to Japan in October.
In 2024, the collaboration broadened to additional areas of shared interest. A Healthy Ageing market study was launched in March, followed by an AI & Health mission in May. In October, a broader Life Sciences & Health mission took place alongside BIO Japan, and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between RegMed XB and Nakanoshima Qross, to strengthen collaboration between organisztions from the Netherlands and Japan in the field of future medicine, with a particular focus on regenerative medicine, human resource development, and advancing research and development towards industrialisation.
In 2025, the partnership reached another milestone with Dutch participation at EXPO 2025 Osaka, providing a platform to showcase Dutch expertise and innovation and further deepen bilateral connections. This was complemented by an incoming Japanese health mission to the Netherlands, focusing on four key themes: digitalisation, regenerative medicine, sport & vitality, and healthy ageing.
Together, these activities reflect the growing depth and breadth of the Netherlands–Japan Life Sciences & Health partnership, creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, innovation and long-term collaboration between both ecosystems.

RegMed XB explores interest in innovation mission to Osaka, Japan.
This is an opportunity for startups, SMEs, and established companies to participate in a 5-day innovation mission to Osaka, Japan, planned for late January or early February 2027.
The mission is being organized in collaboration with Nakanoshima Qross (NQ), the International Hub for Future Medicine. Participants will gain first-hand insights into one of the world's most advanced regenerative medicine ecosystems and explore opportunities for collaboration, business development, and market entry in Japan and the wider Asian region.
