“How can exponential technologies improve health and medicine?”

Health Valley is proud to announce that SingularityU will become active in Nijmegen, located in the heart of Health Valley Netherlands. The launch party will take place on Thursday, July 6th. 

An introduction to the founding of Chapter Nijmegen will be followed by 4 speakers. From different perspectives they will discuss the theme  “How can exponential technologies improve health and medicine?”

  • Zayna Khayat is the Senior Advisor of Health System Innovation at MaRS and Director of MaRS EXCITE. Zayna plays a critical role in helping MaRS startups to get their innovations adopted by healthcare systems in Ontario and around the world.  At this moment she is working at REshape Center for Innovation at Radboud University Medical Centre, as part of an exchange program.
  • A lecture on 3D hips will be held  by Marc Nijhof. He is an orthopaedic surgeon at Sint Maartenskliniek, and specialized in hip prothesiology (primary, revision and infection) and hip arthroscopy. 
  • Bouke Broeren is the CEO of MOMALA. This social enterprise is on a mission to improve Malaria outcomes by providing a smartphone app which largely automates the diagnosing process. The app makes use of an algorithm which is able to diagnose Malaria from a microscopic image of a blood smear, bringing the expertise for quality healthcare even to the most rural of areas.
  • Tobias de Swart will contribute from the patients point of view. In March 2012 his life changed due to a serious ski accident. If lost functions return, it usually occurs in the first month after  a spinal cord injury. That period has come to an end a long time ago. There will probably be no improvement for him. "My parents and I are following all the research in the area of ​​paraplegia. I bet on the medical world. Yes, I have the idea that I will walk again. That will not be in a few years, but in ten years it would be nice too. Then I'm only 33 years old."
