Women for women, share your health through your own vaginal bacteria

Women for women, share your health through your own vaginal bacteria

The dominant presen of vaginal Lactobacillus crispatus-bacteria is associated with good vaginal health: lower risk of preterm birth, urinary tract infections and STD.

In this project our women’s research collective will -together with researchers of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, femcare-specialists at Yoni en genetic expertise of BaseClear- isolate their own vaginal crispatus-bacteria an formulate a product to help other women to prevent health problems.

The project consists of

  1. the crowdsourcing practicum where they will isolate and characterise their own crispatus-bacteria.
  2. a ‘hackathon’ in which they design and produce a product prototype.
  3. colonisation and safety study with the product.

This project is technically and socially innovative because citizen science results in a real product, where citizen remain co-owners.
