Specific Sympathetic Stimulation to target the immune response

The electrical puls stimulation of nerve bundles to reduce inflammatory disease

This project is aimed at designing bioelectronic medicines to control inflammatory biological processes and treat Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) by applying electrical impulses. They will be micro-scale devices that connect to groups of individual neurons or their nerve fibers and modulate the electrical signaling patterns, to restore the healthy status quo of specific organs and functions. In particular, this project detailed how nerves in the body are related to particular diseases, to understand the firing patterns of those nerves, and to explore new technologies that will enable us to interface with these nerve fibers. This project, in conjunction with GlaxoSmithKline bioelectronics Research, focuses entirely on application of such devices for the control of IBD.
