Tailored lifestyle: an integrated data-driven approach to lifestyle and living environment
This program aims to improve public health and reduce chronic diseases by promoting healthier lifestyles and creating supportive environments. Led by the institute 4 Preventive Health and collaborating with the AI hub and the Centre 4 Unusual Collaborations, it brings together four leading knowledge institutions—Wageningen University & Research, Eindhoven University of Technology, Utrecht University, and UMC Utrecht and the private sector. Together, they develop innovative solutions that make a real difference in people's lives.
Chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are significant health challenges in the Netherlands, contributing to high healthcare costs and economic strain. Unhealthy lifestyles cost billions annually, with workplace absenteeism alone accounting for €23 billion each year. These challenges are particularly severe for lower socioeconomic groups, where health disparities are most pronounced. Innovative approaches are urgently needed to address these issues and create sustainable health improvements and inclusive societies.
This program takes a transdisciplinary approach towards system solutions by combining personalized nutrition and exercise advice with environmental changes that make healthy choices easier. For example, it enhances access to healthy food and promotes physical activity in schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. By integrating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, apps, and sensors with insights from behavioral science, the program develops practical solutions that are scalable and sustainable. Special attention is given to underserved communities to ensure equitable benefits and reduce health inequities.
Projects under this program are selected through an open and transparent process. All Dutch academic institutions, companies (especially small- and medium-sized enterprises), and public organizations are invited to propose innovative and impactful health interventions. Proposals are evaluated based on their potential to address real-world challenges and deliver meaningful outcomes. Interested partners can learn more and explore collaboration opportunities by visiting the program page on the i4PH website. Note: registration deadline for preproposals is March 31st, 2025.
