Cluster medical robotics

Improving surgical and rehabilitation care by providing advanced robot technology

The cluster medical robotics is an initiative of Health Valley and HighTechNL/Holland Robotics. It aims to unite companies, knowledge institutes and caregivers in a strategic agenda of the business cases which are priority in the surgery or rehabilitation field in the next decade. With this cluster they can accelerate innovation and market introduction of technology solutions that are a benefit (financially and workload) to the Dutch healthcare system. An important ambition is to come to affordable (reimbursements) and simple (user interface) solutions that can be accepted more quickly in the field. The consortium is working on the top 3 robotic products that should be developed for these two subdomains in a period of 1 – 5 years, relying on Key Opinion Leader’s opinions.

Medical robotics, affordable and meaningful technology solutions that supports patients and healthcare professionals.

Dutch society faces a number of major challenges (aging, health, etc) in which, in some cases, medical robotics can contribute to a solution. Medical robotics is characterised by long development times, complex validation and qualification, complex financing with many stakeholders.

Holland Robotics (driven by the HighTechNL association) from the Dutch High Tech sector (HTSM) supports the Dutch robotics industry and science to focus on a number of sub-areas in which the Netherlands has the potential to be successful; of which medical robotics is one of the most important domains. Health Valley is a foundation that plays an important role as a representative of interest groups within Dutch Healthcare (HealthHolland sector). From this sector, Health Valley is well positioned to map all aspects of medical robotics and to involve all players.

Together, these two organisations represent almost all stakeholders needed to make medical robotics successful in the Netherlands. Health Valley and HighTechNL/Holland Robotics agreed to collaborate in medical robotics and facilitate a consortium, network and processes necessary for next steps to market and scout relevant parties that can enrich the consortium.

The consortium aims to unite companies, knowledge institutes and caregivers in a strategic agenda of the business cases which are priority in the surgery or rehabilitation field in the next decade. With this cluster they can take a leading role in international medical robotics solutions, identify and support companies/institutes with business cases based on actual needs and, contribute to innovation acceleration and reduce (workload and financial) pressure on the Dutch healthcare system. An important ambition is to come to affordable (reimbursements) and simple (user interface) solutions that can be accepted more quickly in the field. The consortium is working on the top 3 robotic products that should be developed for the surgical and rehabilitation field in a period of 1 – 5 years, relying on KOL’s opinions.

Technology is widely available, specific needs are often identified……..but help us to make the match.
