- The Netherlands is the most competitive country in the EU and the fifth most competitive country worldwide on the 2017 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook.

Bedrijfsleven haalt bijna kwart meer voordeel uit innovatieregeling EZ

- Nederlandse ondernemers, waarvan 97 procent afkomstig uit het MKB, hebben vorig jaar 1,2 miljard euro voordeel gehaald uit de innovatieregeling WBSO (Wet Bevordering Speur- en Ontwikkelingswerk). Dit is een stijging van 22 procent ten opzichte van een jaar eerder. Dat blijkt uit de jaarrapportage die minister Kamp van Economische Zaken vandaag heeft gepubliceerd. Met de WBSO kunnen ondernemers meer onderzoek doen om vervolgens deze innovaties te ontwikkelen tot succesvolle producten en diensten.

Pluriomics BV partners with Pivot Park Screening Centre to offer ultra High Throughput Screening for Cardiovascular drug discovery services

- Pluriomics and Pivot Park Screening Centre today announced a collaboration to improve Pluriomics’ cardiovascular drug discovery service offerings and to expand Pivot Park Screening Centre’s knowledge about new and innovative assay technologies used to accelerate drug discoveries. Giving Pluriomics access to the Screening Centre’s ultra High Throughput Screening (uHTS) capability, this collaboration will serve Pluriomics mission which is to contribute to the efficiency of the drug discovery and development process by reducing the development length, costs and late stage attrition of novel drug candidates.

New study finds wide variety in pharma companies’ cancer access programmes

- The Access to Medicine Foundation has published the first analysis of pharmaceutical company actions to improve cancer care in the developing world. It finds that market leaders in oncology are addressing cancer care for the poor, with 129 separate initiatives up and running. Efforts are spread across cancer types and countries. Female cancers gain most attention.

TTW call: Novel Antibacterial Compounds and Therapies Antagonizing Resistance (NACTAR)

- The Dutch Ministry of Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and NWO Domain TTW have jointly commissioned an ambitious research programme on the development of new antibiotics and alternatives to antibiotics. As a result, we present here the Call for Proposals focusing on 'Novel Antibacterial Compounds and Therapies Antagonizing Resistance' (NACTAR). The main goal of the programme is to facilitate research and development of new antimicrobial molecules and alternatives to antibiotics, which should become available for the healthcare system for a fair and affordable price.

Health Foundations and Top Sector LSH work together on new call on chronic illness

- De Samenwerkende GezondheidsFondsen (SGF) en de Topsector Life Sciences & Health (Topsector LSH) stellen 3 miljoen euro beschikbaar voor maximaal 50% cofinanciering van een publiek-privaat onderzoeksinitiatief. Dit initiatief moet leiden tot innovatieve oplossingen die mensen met een chronische ziekte zo fit en betrokken mogelijk laten leven.

Utrecht Science Park/Bilthoven officially launched

- Precies een jaar geleden hebben Bilthoven Biologicals, als toenmalig eigenaar van Science Park Bilthoven, de gemeente De Bilt, provincie Utrecht en Stichting Utrecht Science Park een intentieverklaring ondertekend om samen te werken op het gebied van Life Sciences & Health. Vandaag is de definitieve samenwerkingsovereenkomst ondertekend. Hiermee is Utrecht Science Park/Bilthoven een feit. Utrecht Science Park is het eerste sciencepark in Nederland met twee verschillende locaties. Kennisinstellingen, onderzoeksinstituten en bedrijven werken hier intensief samen om nieuwe oplossingen te vinden voor een langer en gezonder leven.

NWO Responsible Innovation | Re-opening call

- Consortia of researchers and private parties can apply for funding for proactive research into ethical and social aspects of innovation via the NWO funding instrument Responsible Innovation (NWO-MVI). The call for proposals focuses on the themes of Building Materials of Life (BBoL), Creative Industry, Energy, and Logistics. Researchers who want more information on the call or to get in touch with possible research partners can join the Pitch & Date Event on 23 May in Utrecht.
