The Netherlands remains the best European country according to the European Health Consumer Index
Het Nederlandse zorgstelsel scoort het hoogste van Europa in de Euro Health Consumer Index (EHCI). Dit is de jaarlijkse vergelijking van gezondheidssystemen. In de categorie geneesmiddelen scoort Nederland een 8,9.
Oncode Institute: samen kanker te slim af
Met de lancering van Oncode Institute verenigen Nederlandse toponderzoekers op het gebied van kanker zich om het verschil te maken voor de patiënt. Dit onafhankelijke instituut, richt zich op drie pijlers: excellent onderzoek, intensieve samenwerking en behandelmethoden sneller in de kliniek krijgen. Het doel is om fundamentele inzichten over kanker zo efficiënt mogelijk te vertalen naar betere en meer betaalbare zorg. De komende vijf jaar investeert KWF Kankerbestrijding, samen met de ministeries van Economische Zaken en Klimaat (EZK), Onderwijs Cultuur en Wetenschap (OCW) en Volksgezondheid, Welzijn en Sport (VWS), Health~Holland, NWO en ZonMw in totaal €120 miljoen in Oncode Institute.

Bridge-builder Leufkens strengthens Lygature
Starting February 1, 2018, Professor Bert Leufkens will further strengthen the scientific leadership team at Lygature. For the last ten years, Professor Leufkens has been chairman of the Dutch Medicines Evaluation Board (College ter Beoordeling van Geneesmiddelen). He has also played several leading roles at the European Medicines Agency, which will move to Amsterdam in 2019.
Research funding by NWO will be simplified
Per 1 augustus 2018 voert NWO een grote vereenvoudiging door. Al haar financieringsinstrumenten brengt NWO terug tot een handvol ‘hoofdvormen’. Deze vereenvoudiging is een technische ingreep die verder geen invloed heeft op de invulling van de onderzoeksprogramma’s. Wat met de oude instrumenten kon, zal na 1 augustus nog steeds kunnen. Het verschil zal zijn dat het gehele palet instrumenten veel overzichtelijker wordt.
InSciTe experiences growth spurt
Based at the Brightlands Chemelot campus, InSciTe (Institute for Science and Technology) supports scientists and starting businesses to translate medical innovations to practical applications, among other things. Three years after it was founded, the biomedical department of the institute has outgrown its location. Construction will start this year on new labs and cleanrooms.
Benefit Call open for Belgium-Netherlands Funding of International Trials
