Dutch company SkylineDx receives EUR 20 million for skin cancer diagnostic test
Benelux’ largest biotech investor Aat van Herk commits a €20 million investment in diagnostics company SkylineDx after reaching major milestones in 2018, financing SkylineDx’ market potential of over $1 billion annually based on their current progress in the melanoma (skin cancer) field.
Innovative sensor gives new impuls in the fight against decubitus
Decubitus is extreem pijnlijk voor patiënten, verhoogt de werkdruk van verpleegkundigen en kost jaarlijks €450 miljoen. Bijna 10% van de cliënten in zorginstellingen ontwikkelen doorligplekken, terwijl deze complicatie te voorkomen is. Momo Medical, Venture Challenge alumnus, en verpleegkundigen gaan samen de strijd aan om decubitus terug te dringen. De Momo BedSense brengt het liggedrag van een cliënt in kaart dankzij slimme sensoren en met behulp van geavanceerde algoritmes. Op een praktische manier wordt dit teruggekoppeld naar de verpleegkundigen zodat er preventief gehandeld kan worden.
No longer rejection by the BK virus?
Na een niertransplantatie hebben nierpatiënten verhoogde kans op virusinfecties, zoals het BK-virus. Op dit moment is er nog geen effectief medicijn om het virus aan te pakken. Dr. Eric van der Veer van het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC) ontwikkelde met zijn team een innovatieve, antivirale therapie tegen het BK-virus. De komende vier jaar hoopt hij grote stappen te zetten om de therapie van het laboratorium naar de kliniek te brengen.

On 26 April, the Dutch Cabinet established the mission-driven top sectors and innovation policy and its underlying 25 missions to strengthen the Dutch economy. Five of these missions address the societal challenge health and care. Top Sector Life Sciences & Health (LSH) drew up the Knowledge and Innovation Agenda (KIA) 2020-2023 with all stakeholders in the sector to shape these missions into actions.
