COVID-19 Worsened Dementia’s State-Of-Play in Europe

The COVID-19 pandemic had a serious impact on health services across the EU. One of the public health conditions that was left out was Alzheimer's disease. The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified serious shortcomings in the diagnosis and assessment of dementia.

According to the WHO, the crude prevalence of dementia in people over 65 is estimated at 8.5%, or 13.1 million (the population aged 65 and over in the WHO European Region is 154.3 million).

Stakeholders warn that urgent coordinated action is needed to help EU patients and their caregivers meet the challenges of Alzheimer's disease.

Meanwhile, promising new technologies and innovative therapies are constantly emerging in this field, which patients want to take full advantage of.
