NWO and Lorentz Center Ask Companies to Share their R&D Problem to be Solved During Workshop

During the ‘Life Sciences with Industry’ Workshop 2021 from 8-12 November that the Dutch Research Council (NWO) and the Lorentz Center jointly organise, scientists and researchers from both academia and industry work closely together to find innovative solutions to scientifically challenging and commercially important R&D problems within a week. Participants are young and talented scientists from different sectors of the life sciences, guided by senior researchers from industry and academia.

Since 2013, NWO has been organising the Life Sciences with Industry workshop together with the Lorentz Center. The workshop is intended to encourage cooperation and exchange of knowledge between academia and industry. Scientists and researchers from both academia and industry work closely together for one week to find original solutions to challenging industrial problems.

Participate with your company's R&D problem?

The workshop offers your company one week to collaborate with a team of dedicated researchers from different sectors of the life sciences on the problems in your proposed case. These teams integrate academic knowledge from different branches of the life sciences, including molecular and cellular biology, biophysics, genomics, bioinformatics, statistics, systems biology, biochemistry and bioengineering, thus ensuring that problems will be approached from different angles. The goal is to come to a concrete practical solution or new horizons with new insights. In addition, participation will strengthen your company's academic network, leading to possible new collaborative projects and partners, while having the chance to meet highly qualified potential employees.

Companies are invited to submit a proposal for a challenging industrially relevant case study on life sciences topics. More information about the application procedure can be found in our information and application form. The deadline for cases is 30 April 2021.

During this workshop you will become acquainted with the life sciences industry by working on a R&D problem. Together with the company, you go over the problem and start working towards a solution with your team. By collaborating with other researchers from different life sciences disciplines, you expand your network and experience working from a team with a common mission.
