Medicine Monitor 2021: English Version Now Online

In this yearly publication, the Innovative Medicines Association provides a clear and illustrative insight into the costs and benefits of medicines. Why? Because having a dialogue about medicines is only possible when there is clarity about facts and figures.

The Medicine Monitor, published in Dutch last month, contains 37 infographics and gives an overview of the recent developments in the biopharmaceutical industry. One of these infographics shows that more than 800 studies have started in the hunt on COVID-19 vaccines and medicines. The EMA approved two medicines and four vaccines so far.

Furthermore, there were 18,000 studies on the development of medicines not related to COVID-19. These medicines were, for instance, developed to treat cancer. Almost 1,100 medicines in development make use of gene therapies, of which 665 are focused on cancer. Another disease with a lot of attention is Alzheimer’s disease. Over 100 medicines are being developed to treat this.
