With an aging population and healthcare costs rising, innovation in the healthcare system is needed to increase productivity and provide patients with the care they deserve. As healthcare professionals increasingly leave the industry due to heavy workloads, integrating LLMs into healthcare systems offers potential relief. However, there are major challenges ahead in effectively leveraging these advanced AI technologies to improve healthcare outcomes, from diagnostics to patient care.

At the MIT Hacking Medicine Groningen edition, participants will form interdisciplinary teams to tackle complex healthcare challenges, using AI as part of the solution. The aim is to generate a pitch for a viable business plan with a clear problem definition and a realistic solution.

Mentors from healthcare, AI, ethics, and business will guide the teams, and workshops will be available to help build key skills. This is not a coding competition – it's about forming diverse teams to tackle healthcare issues with practical, sustainable, impact-focused solutions. Ultimately, participants will present their pitches to a jury of experts, focusing on impact and feasibility.

This hackathon runs from November 29th to December 1st in Groningen and is free to attend. It’s organized in collaboration with UMCG, the Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society Technology and AI, and MIT. The event will be held at the House of Connections, with the following schedule:

• Friday, November 29th, 17:00–22:30;

• Saturday, November 30th, 08:30–22:30;

• Sunday, December 1st, 08:30–18:00 (including award ceremony!).

Meals and coffee will be provided throughout, though participants should arrange their own overnight accommodation.

We welcome students and professionals from all fields – no coding or medical degree is required. Our hackathon thrives on diversity, bringing together patients, designers, entrepreneurs, engineers, and more. Spaces are limited, and we will be accepting applications on a rolling basis, so sign up!
